Bernie Sanders also talks on the president’s authority to legalize marijuana.

This am Lo from Veriheal, and I’ll keep you up to speed on the newest cannabis news.

Richard Wershe Jr., often known as ‘White Boy Rick,’ enters the cannabis industry.

You may or may not be aware with the tragic story of Richard Wershe Jr., often known as “White Boy Rick.”

To cut a long tale short, he was a young kid who was recruited and duped by the FBI as a narcotics informant, only to be sentenced to life in prison when the agency failed to protect him.

Now that he’s out of jail, he’s collaborating with Pleasant Trees Cannabis Company to launch The 8th, his own dispensary.

According to the Detroit Times, the name is a double entendre that “refers to the standard measurement” for cannabis while also alluding to the 8th Amendment of the United States Constitution, which forbids “cruel and unusual punishment.”

A moving tribute to his time in jail and the plight of countless others who have been caught up in the system.

Wershe’s new cannabis business will sell cannabis flower, extracts, vape batteries, and clothing, among other things.

He’s suing the FBI for $100 million for suspected child molestation after spending three decades in prison.

A part of his company’s profits will go toward helping those who have been wrongfully imprisoned.

President Biden has the option of legalizing marijuana, but he chooses not to.

The next item on the agenda is

Bernie Sanders addressed how President Biden could legalize cannabis but chooses not to in a recent podcast interview.

“If President Biden decides to legalize cannabis,” Sanders says, but “Biden can’t click his finger and make these things happen on his own.”

There are two ways to go about legalizing marijuana.

  1. Either the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) or an outside party must submit a petition. The petition must next be reviewed by the US Attorney General, who will then delegate authority to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Or….

  1. The US attorney general may start the process by contacting the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which then sends it to the FDA for approval. The FDA must undertake research, medical and public health assessments, and any health concerns after the examination. Then it’s sent over to the Justice Department to be categorized properly.

Despite the fact that eliminating cannabis prohibition was a major part of Biden’s campaign,

President Biden’s press secretary, Jen Psaki, stated that although he is presently a supporter of decriminalization, he has not extended his position to include legalization.

And it seems that his restricted viewpoint has not altered.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo of New York Promises to Make Cannabis a Priority

Last but not least,

Incoming York’s new governor has promised to put the state’s adult-use marijuana program first.

Former Governor Cuomo approved recreational legalization in March but did little to improve the program’s infrastructure, such as appointing individuals to lead it.

Cuomo was embroiled in a dispute with the state Senate, which must approve any appointments.

These appointments are critical because they are the ones who set the regulations and grant permits for everything from cultivation to retail sales.

Thankfully, Kathy Hochul, New York’s new governor, has pledged to clear the backlog, make the program a priority, and move it ahead.
